Why is Honey-Making Seasonal?

Honey-making is a seasonal activity primarily due to the lifecycle and behavior of bees, as well as the availability of flowers. Bees gather nectar, a key ingredient for honey, from blooming plants, which largely happens in spring and summer months. As seasons change, the quantity and variety of flowers dwindle, and bees have fewer resources for nectar collection. Consequently, honey production slows down during the colder months or periods with fewer blooms.

Additionally, bees operate on a biological rhythm that aligns with seasonal changes. During spring and summer, the hive is at its most active, in line with the abundance of nectar. However, as winter approaches, bees enter a phase of conservation to survive the colder months. During this period, the hive's priority shifts from honey production to maintaining the bee population within the hive. This cyclical pattern of activity and conservation inherent in a bee's lifecycle makes honey-making a seasonal activity.

We look forward to sharing next season’s flavors with everyone, and please stay tuned for updates as to the details.
